Green diapers
Introducing the Green Diaper
For years there has been the debate amongst parents, cloth or disposable diapers? Many parents swear by the ease of disposables yet others swear by the usability of cloth as well as the environmental benefit they have. Now there is a third choice for both sides. It is known as the new hybrid green diapers or gDiaper.
Green Diapers take the best things of both worlds and place them in one convenient system. The outer diaper cover is reusable and when soiled can be washed for later use. There are inner liners and inserts which are both reusable and biodegradable, depending on which ones you use. The gRefill, is a 100% biodegradable insert which, when soiled can be thrown in the trash, flushed or wet ones can even be composted in the family compost system. It only takes about 1 compost cycle to see the wet refills completely broken down. Soiled refills can be simply thrown in the toilet or the trash. The gRefills are made of a mixture of wood fluff pulp and sodium polycrylate. Absolutely no plastics are used in the construction of gRefills. As for the wood fluff pulp, it is always farmed form 100% sustainable forests.
The green diaper disposable insert is not the only option to the gDiaper. You can also use the reusable gCloth with the diaper cover that comes with the system. The gCloth is also green in nature with four layers of moisture locking fibers. The top two layers against the baby’s skin is 100% microfleece which wick away any moisture from the baby’s skin. Below that is the two layers of hemp/cotton mixture that locks moisture in place for easy removal and maximum dryness for the child. When wet, simply pull out the cloth and toss in a pail or laundry to wash for the next usage. For added ease of washing the cloth you can also use the additional gCloth liner. The liner is designed to be able to just lay on top of the cloth. It catches all solid waste and simply lets any moisture pass through to the cloth itself. When soiled, the liner can simply be removed and tossed in the toilet or trash and replaced with another liner.
The care of the gCloth is simple but must be followed to ensure maximum absorption. It is recommended that you wash the cloths about six times without detergent before the first usage. This is needed because of the nature of the hemp layer. With each wash, the hemp layer will soften and become more absorbable. It won’t wear out but may become clogged with detergent. When thisĀ happens, you will notice that the cloth does not absorb moisture as it did previously. To remedy this, simply wash in the machine with no soap and dry in the machine dryer. For regular washing, you can wash with mild detergent in hot water followed by a machine dry. This easy system allows for ultimate environmental benefit as well as a huge decrease in the frequency and severity of diaper rash.
The green diaper is a perfect hybrid solution to parent’s diapering career. Because of the cloth and disposable options, the green diaper is perfect for home use and when you and junior are on the go. This system is sure to make having adventures both happy and dry.
