Types of Cloth Diapers- A Comparison
As one looks at cloth diapers to buy, there are a few things they will notice. One of those things is the different kinds of cloth diapers. There are quite literally hundreds of brands to look at but if you decide early on which type of diaper you want, it will make your search go so much more smoothly. This is where a cloth diaper comparison will come in handy.
Prefolds are the simplest and most basic of diapers. They are comprised of trifolded inner diapers with covers to go over them. These diapers come in many colors and the covers can be found in many colors and patterns. They however, will need pins or clips to close them unless the diaper cover has snaps or Velcro. The Prefold diaper will need to be washed after every use although you can get away with using the cover several times before washing.
Fitted diapers are similar to prefolds in that they are comprised of a cover and a diaper. However, these diapers look the most like disposable diapers when making a cloth diaper comparison. These diapers will need some inserts to inside, so if considering these diapers that will be one thing you will have to figure in. As with other diapers, you will have to wash the inserts and diaper if needed. As with the other covers, you can go several changes between washes.
Pocket diapers are similar to the fitted diaper but they have pockets on the inside of them in which to place inserts. With these diapers you can add two inserts to have added protection. Many of these diapers are one size so they can grow with you baby. They will need to be washed after soiling and the inserts will need to be washed after every wash. It is also recommended to use a cover with this diaper as well. They come in two styles one with snaps and one with Velcro to fasten the sides.
The final kind of diaper in this cloth diaper comparison is the All-in-one or AIO. These diapers are a bit more expensive than the others; however, it is only one piece instead of several that you will have to deal with. One kind of these diapers, which is known as the all-in-two, has a removable cover that can be used with other kinds of diapers as well. The AIO is only one piece, meaning this is one of the easiest diapers to use. It will have to be washed after every use but cleanup after a bowel movement can be lessened by linings which can be bought separately.
All of these diapers can be found online under various brand names. They can be made out of any fabric which includes hemp, bamboo and cotton. They come in many colors and patterns and most are available in various sizes including newborn sizing. The newborn diapers usually have a notch for the umbilical cord. These variations means that parents will be able to customize their child’s diaper to style, comfort and personal preference with ease and will likely have a bit of fun with their baby’s diapers.
